The rediscovery of the Amber Road

Markus Zohner, theatre-man, photographer and writer has rediscovered the eastern amber road from Venice to St. Petersburg on foot for nine months (see map). The 4’000-kilometre-long hike has led him through twelve European countries. He explains that he did not do this extraordinarily long walk as a penance or pilgrimage, but to have time for contemplative thoughts. "To take time for all the thoughts, images, memories, to let them return and recur, to turn and twist them under the ever-changing light of the different days and under the steady rhythm of the steps" (page 87).

Under the motto, the way is the goal, every day was a new experience with his ego. The many photos show his fascination for the beauty of nature, the culture with fantastic buildings and archaeological excavations and for the many encounters with interesting people. The book conveys to the reader the importance of joy and curiosity in life.
